Why we loved Greece

Greece is four trips in one. Crete is the warm-up that turns into a highlight: pink-sand lagoons at Balos, an electric-blue inlet carved into the rock at Seitan Limania, and the easy confidence of Chania's Old Town after dark. Santorini earns the hype and then gives you more than the postcard, once you trade the Oia crowds for a sunset cruise on the caldera and the quieter villages up at Pyrgos. Milos is the one nobody warns you about: the white volcanic moonscape at Sarakiniko, sea caves you reach by boat, and a beach at Tsigrado you climb down to by rope and ladder. Then Athens closes it out, the Acropolis at your own pace and the best casual food of the whole trip.

We built the route so the ferries and the one short flight actually line up, which means you spend your days on the water and at the table instead of in transit. Thirteen days, and we still weren't ready to leave.
