Why we loved Sardinia, Rome, & Vatican City
This one is really two trips stitched into one, and Sardinia is the heart of it. The first eleven days are a Sardinian road trip, the part most people don't give enough time. You start on the Costa Smeralda with cove-hopping and a boat day through the La Maddalena archipelago, then work your way south: the Baunei coast by boat, the cliff hike down to Cala Goloritze, the covered markets and rooftops of Cagliari, Catalan Alghero with its ramparts going gold at sunset, and the shallow turquoise of La Pelosa up on the northern tip. Beaches you reach by boat, by paddle, or by earning the climb back up.
Then you fly to Rome and the trip changes speed for its last three days. A hands-on cooking class your first night in Trastevere, the Pantheon and the Trevi and the Colosseum on foot, and a final morning under Michelangelo's ceiling in the Sistine Chapel with St. Peter's free next door. We built the route so a single short flight links the two halves cleanly, which means fourteen days that feel full without ever feeling like a sprint.
